Raichur: Former MLA, A. Papareddy, slapped police personnel during a protest organized here on Wednesday, triggering outrage in the police circles.

A protest was being held at Dr. Ambedkar Circle in the city against former CM Siddaramaiah’s “derogatory remarks about Dalits”. The protestors and activists of BJP S.C. Morcha tried to burn an effigy of Siddaramaiah. As police tried to prevent this, there was a verbal altercation between the protestors and police.

Former ML A Papareddy was angered by the police action to remove the effigy. In the heat of the moment, he slapped the police constable Raghavendra attached to the West Police station.

The situation was tense for a while after the incident.
