Rain batters coastal Karnataka, red alert issued in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi

Mangaluru/Udupi: District commissioner (DC) of Dakshina Kannada Dr Rajendra K V and Udupi DC, M Kurma Rao on Monday, May 16 informed that heavy rainfall has been forecasted for the next five days in coastal districts.
The district disaster management authority has issued an orange alert on May 17 and 19 in Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts.
A red alert has been sounded on May 18.
Fishermen have been warned against venturing into the sea or the river.
Due to the extreme weather conditions, the coastal area was inundated by heavy rainfall Monday afternoon, causing water to flood into low-lying areas. The rain got even stronger at night.
Monday morning was cloudy, with some showers. But by midday, almost everywhere on the coast, heavy showers were seen.
Heavy rains were reported from areas adjoining the Western Ghats Including Sullia, Belthangady, Karkala, and Kundapur, of the twin districts.
