Red alert issued for Coastal Karnataka; heavy rains expected

Mangaluru / Udupi: Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert for the coastal districts of Karnataka for July 4.

The coastal areas of Dakshina Kannada, Uttara Kannada, and Udupi are expected witness strong surface winds accompanied by Heavy Rain, thunderstorm, lightning, squall, IMD’s nowcast warnings said.

Consequently, a red alert has been put into effect from the afternoon of July 4 until 8:30 am on July 5. An orange alert has also been issued for July 5 and 6 for the coastal Karnataka region.

Strong winds, rough seas: 

In the next 24 hours, there is a high possibility of winds blowing at the speed of 40 to 55 km per hour along the coast and fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea.

Udupi: School holidays to be decided by Tahsildars  & BEOs  

Udupi District Collector Kurma Rao announced that Taluk Tahsildars and Block Education Officers have been directed to take action about declaring holidays where necessary keeping in mind the interest of the students.

Orange alert for South Interior Karnataka

Moreover, IMD has issued an orange alert for the South Interior Karnataka region. Widespread rainfall is anticipated to persist in the inland districts of Shivamogga, Kodagu, Hassan, and Chikkamagaluru for the next two days.
