Savanur woman felicitated with Kittur Rani Chennamma award

In a remarkable acknowledgment of her dedication to women’s empowerment, Sharada M. Bhajana, hailing from Malettari of Savanur village in Kadaba taluk of DK district, has been honored with the prestigious Kittur Rani Chennamma Award by the Women and Child Development Department.

The award, presented annually as part of International Women’s Day celebrations, recognizes individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the holistic development of women.

The award ceremony, held on March 12 at Jawahar Bala Bhawan, Cubbon Park, Bengaluru, witnessed Minister of Women and Child Development, Lakshmi Hebbalkar, presenting Sharada with the accolade. Alongside a certificate of recognition, Sharada was bestowed with a cash prize of Rs 25,000 in acknowledgment of her exemplary service.

This esteemed award, instituted by the state government, acknowledges the efforts of women achievers across various fields. In this year’s edition, a total of 26 awards were conferred across seven categories, encompassing areas such as organizational contributions, individual endeavors, arts, literature, sports, education, and heroic acts.

Sharada’s commendable achievements in the art domain have been pivotal in clinching this honor. Serving as the librarian of Savanur Gram Panchayat she has been instrumental in fostering cultural enrichment within her community.

As the President of Padmashri Yuvati Mandal of Savanur, she has led her team in organizing youth fairs spanning from the taluk to the state level, providing platforms for cultural exchange and skill development among women. Additionally, Sharada’s involvement in numerous cultural programs has further amplified the participation of women across various forums.

Beyond her cultural endeavors, Sharada’s leadership extends to her role as the President of DK District Library Employees Association, reflecting her commitment to the promotion of literacy and knowledge dissemination within the region.
