SC ruling on Cauvery water sharing: Mandya bandh on Sept 23

A wave of discontent and protest swept across the state as the Supreme Court issued a verdict that was widely seen as unfavorable in the Cauvery river water sharing dispute. Farmers, the general public, and activists voiced their dissatisfaction and rallied for a Mandya Bandh in response to the decision.
In a ruling that upheld the directives of the Cauvery Water Regulation Committee and the Cauvery Water Management Authority, the Supreme Court issued an interim order mandating the release of five thousand cusecs of water to Tamil Nadu on a daily basis.
In the wake of the Supreme Court’s decision, which many view as detrimental to the state’s interests in the distribution of Cauvery river water, the Mandya District Farmers’ Welfare Committee has issued a call for a Mandya Bandh. The committee is gearing up to escalate the struggle, with plans to stage a district-wide shutdown on September 23, sending a strong message to both the state and central governments. Various organizations, political party leaders, and workers have been urged to unite under the leadership of the District Farmers’ Welfare Committee.
In addition to the Mandya Bandh call, the District Farmers’ Welfare Committee has announced another round of meetings scheduled for Friday. This gathering will bring together political leaders, activists, representatives from pro-Kannada groups, progressive organizations, and association leaders to chart out the specifics of the bandh and its objectives.
