Udupi: Senior BJP leader and owner of Sharada International Hotel, B. Sudhakar Shetty, breathed his last at a private hospital in Udupi on Thursday, January 4.

Sudhakar Shetty, a stalwart in the hotel business for many years, had a notable political career. He served as the Chairman of Udupi Urban Development Authority from 2009 to 2012.

Despite facing challenges, including a loss in the Udupi Assembly Constituency election in 1999, Sudhakar Shetty remained dedicated to public service.

In the 2004 elections, Shetty took a rebel stance by contesting as an independent candidate after being denied a ticket by the BJP. His commitment to political service was evident as he held various positions within the party.

In the 2013 elections, Sudhakar Shetty once again entered the political arena, contesting against Pramod Madhwaraj after sitting MLA Raghupathi Bhat withdrew from the race. Despite his efforts, victory eluded him in that electoral battle.

Sudhakar Shetty’s contributions to both the political and business realms have left an indelible mark on the Udupi community.
