Shirva: Heavy rains uproot tree; biker injured

A bike rider escaped with minor injuries after a huge tree got uprooted and fell on the road near St Mary’s PU college here on Thursday.

Ramesh, a Belman resident was headed to Udupi for work when the tree collapsed due to the heavy rains that has been lashing across the district. Ramesh sustained minor injuries in the mishap and has been admitted to Shirva Community Health Centre for treatment.

A power transformer and three electric poles were damaged in the incident.

Traffic on the route was affected for over one hour. Shirva Gram Panchayat president visited the spot and cleared the tree debris from the road to facilitate traffic.
