Shivamogga: In a tragic incident, a newborn in need of emergency medical care died as no ambulance was available at Tamari in Sagar Taluk in the district on Wednesday night.
A pregnant woman named Chaitra developed labor pains late last night. Even though an ambulance was requested, none were available. So, Chaitra was rushed to the Tamari primary healthcare center on a private vehicle last night.
The woman had given birth to a baby girl at the primary healthcare center. But, due to the delay in getting to the hospital, the health condition of the newborn, as well as the mother, worsened. Doctors treating the woman had referred her to the Sagar Taluk Hospital for advanced treatment.
The newborn was taken in a private vehicle but died on the way to the taluk hospital.
The loss of a newborn due to the nonavailability of 108-Ambulance service has left locals fuming.
