Surathkal: Since almost 8 years, Yogish Bhat (88) who used to distribute holy water and Prasadam at Raghavendra Math at Hosabettu here was being tortured by his son Suresh Bhat (38), but the elderly father’s painful days have reached its end through the intervention of Surathkal police.
A video showing Suresh visiting the Mutt, beating up his father and dragging his box away went viral on social sites and the public had overwhelmingly condemned the son for his heartless behaviour. The people expressed that the son should be punished for torturing his father.
On Wednesday, the Surathkal police asked Suresh Bhat, who stays at Udupi, to come to the police station and on his arrival asked to prostrate before his father and seek forgiveness for his wrongdoings. He was also warned that if he continued with torturing his father, he would be subjected to stringent punishment as per law.
Suresh Bhat agreed to the conditions posed by the police and promised to look after his father with love and respect. He was sent away thereafter with a curt warning.
Yogish Bhat has been serving at Raghavendra Mutt since the last several years, and has been loved and respected by devotees.
