Belthangady: BJP State President and Member of Parliament Nalin Kumar Kateel called for a court-monitored re-probe into the Sowjanya rape and murder case.

Speaking at the protest meeting held in front of Belthagady Mini Vdhana Soudha on Sunday, Nalin said there is an opportunity for re-investigation as  Santhosh Rao, who was earlier accused of the crime, was found innocent in the case by the CBI court. “It is imperative that the culprits should be brought to justice,” he said.

Further, he said that an appeal would be sent to the Chief Minister and the Governor to open a re-investigation of the case.

Sowjanya’s mother Kusumavathi said, “I have been asking for justice for 11 years, but I have not got it… I want to meet Prime Minister Modi and request him for justice for my daughter.”

Sunil Kumar, MLA from Karkala, assured that BJP will make arrangements for fulfilling Sowjanya’s mother demand for a meeting with the Prime Minister.

Speaking about Former MLA K Vasant Bangera’s claims that he is fearful of revealing the “real culprits” behind the act, Sunil Kumar said “People of the whole district are with you (Bangera). If you know who the accused are, tell the investigating agency. Wilfully concealing information is also a crime. If you had disclosed earlier, there would have been no need for this protest.”

Former Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary, MLAs Bhgirathi Murulya, Vedavyas Kamath, and Umanath Kotian among others were present.
