Bengaluru: Taking a potshot at BJP post-elections, Leader of Opposition in Karnataka Assembly Siddaramaiah on Tuesday said that issue of Bharat Ratna for Veer Savarkar can be raised during next election campaign.

“Dear BJP India leaders, Now that Maharashtra assembly elections are over, let’s speak about Savarkar during next elections. But now let’s talk about unemployment, price rise, the bankruptcy of banks, farmers’ distress, compensation to flood & drought victims,” tweeted Siddaramaiah.

It may be recalled that the BJP unit of poll-bound Maharashtra had promised in its election manifesto to bestow the Bharat Ratna on Veer Savarkar posthumously, which triggered a nationwide debate.

Earlier Siddaramaiah had suggested that instead of Hindu Mahasabha leader Veer Savarkar, the Central government should bestow the Bharat Ratna on Lingayat seer Shivakumar Swamiji, who passed away in January this year.

The 111-year old seer, earned the fame of ‘Walking God’ was a philanthropist, educator and humanitarian. His personality and his works were revered worldwide.
