Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Wednesday said that the state government will hold discussions on implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) for primary and secondary schools soon.
“We are ready to have a discuss National Education Policy. There are revolutionary changes. A committee has been formed as we haven’t decided on its implementation for primary and secondary schools,” after offering tribute to Sir M Visvesvaraya on Engineers Day.
Earlier in August, Karnataka government issued an order on implementation of NEP-2020 with effect from the current academic year 2021-2022.
Later state’s Higher Education Minister, C N Ashwatha Narayana had announced that Karnataka had become the first state in the nation to issue the order with regard to the implementation of NEP-2020.
The National Education Policy 2020 was passed by the Union Cabinet in July 2020, making it the first educational policy to be passed by the government in the last 34 years. The NEP 2020 aims to completely revamp the education system in India.
On July 29, 2020, the Union Cabinet passed the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, replacing the thirty-four-year-old National Policy on Education (NPE), 1986.
According to the NEP 2020, 10+2 structure of school curricula is to be replaced by a 5+3+3+4 curricular structure corresponding to ages 3-8, 8-11, 11-14, and 14-18 years respectively. It will include 12 years of schooling and three years of Anganwadi and pre-schooling.
