Puttur / Bengaluru: The issue of disbursing subsidy to arecanut farmers for procuring fiber harvesting poles came up during the Karnataka assembly discussions on Wednesday.
State’s home minister Araga Jnanedra and MLA T D Raju Gowda proposed that the subsidy be released for farmers to acquire the useful farm implement.
The lack of tree climbers has been a constant complaint of the farmers in recent years. The invention of a lightweight harvester pole not only solves labor problems but also reduces the chances of accidental falls. The farm implement can also be used to spray pesticides and would help farmers to increase their yields too, it was argued in the assembly.
To this, Speaker Kageri suggested to the home minister Araga Jnanedra, who also heads the Arecanut board, to take a decision in the cabinet to this effect.
Horticulture Minister Muniratna assured the Assembly that a suitable decision would be taken soon for implementing the proposal, after considering all details.
