An elderly man from Kodiyala was reportedly deceived by an unidentified person on the pretext of a “Modi scheme”. The incident allegedly took place in Bellare town on May 20, where the perpetrator managed to dupe the unsuspecting victim and fled with a gold ring.
The unidentified person reportedly approached the elderly man and mentioned that money had been deposited into his bank account through a “Modi Scheme”. He further claimed that he needed Rs 7,000 to pay the bank manager to withdraw the supposed funds and asked the elderly man to help him arrange the money.
However, when the elderly man informed him that he did not possess the necessary cash, the stranger proposed an alternative: he asked the elderly man to surrender his gold ring instead. The unsuspecting victim complied and handed it over to the stranger.
The stranger then asked the elderly man to get a Rs 5 stamp paper and assured him that they would go together to get the money out of the bank account. The elderly man complied with this too. After walking a little ahead, when he turned around, the stranger was nowhere to be found.
The elderly person contacted the Bellare police station to report the incident. The police promptly reviewed the CCTV footage in the area but did not find any clues.
The elderly person, however, chose not to file a formal complaint with the police.
