A member of the Afghan junior women’s national volleyball team was allegedly beheaded by Taliban militants earlier this month, a report quoting the team’s coach stated.

In an interview with the Persian Independent, the coach said Mahjabin Hakimi, a star player for the Kabul Municipality Volleyball Club was brutally murdered and her family members were threatened not to talk about the incident.

Pictures of what seems to be her mutilated head surfaced on social media a few days ago.

Following the fall of the Ashraf Ghani government and Taliban taking control of Afghanistan most women athletes have been forced to flee and live underground, the coach said.
