Teenager drowns in a rivulet near Kidur

Kasaragod: A teenager drowned in a rivulet near Kidur coming under the limits of Kumbla police station. The deceased boy has been identified as Melwyn D’Souza (14), only son of Marcel D’Souza and Metilda couple, residents of Dandegoli. Melwyn was a ninth standard student of Sheni Shri Sharadamba School.
On the afternoon of Saturday, October 13th, Melwyn along with his two friends got down in the Shiriya Bajpe Uluvaru rivulet to have bath, when the tragedy occurred.
The fire service personnel, police, fishermen and locals, together searched for the corpse of Melwyn which was located, late in the night of the same day near a rivulet near Kumbla.
It was getting late, but he did not return
Although Melwyn had gone in the afternoon with his friends to take bath in the rivulet, he did not return till evening and his family members got concerned. When they enquired with his friends, the incident came to light. Then a search operation was launched to find Melwyn’s mortal remains. Late in the night around 12:30 am, the fishermen brought out the corpse of the deceased teenager from the rivulet.
The corpse was sent to Kasaragod general hospital for postmortem and later handed over to the family members. The deceased teenager was laid to rest at Mother of Sorrows church, Bela on Sunday, October 14th.
