Mandya: A tense situation was observed at the Srirangapatna’s Jamia Masjid on Sunday, December 4, as thousands of pro-Hindu activists who were participating in the Hanuman Mala Yatra allegedly tried to enter the Masjid premises.

At around 10:30 AM on Sunday, the Yatra had begun from the Nimishamba Temple and had to pass from Jamia Masjid Circle towards Kote Anjaneya Swamy Temple. At this point in time, several activists on reaching the Jamia Masjid began sloganeering “Jai Shri Ram” and allegedly tried to move the barricades and enter the Masjid.

Reportedly, the slogans “Alli Ram Mandira Illi Hanuma Mandira” were heard. They were also heard saying that come what may, they will build the Hanuman Mandir in the place of Jamia Masjid.

However, the police force which was already deployed keeping in mind the sensitivity of the situation blocked the activists from entering the Masjid premises. Following this, the activists had a scuffle with the police. The situation was later brought under control.

Mandya SP Yatish visited the spot and assessed the situation.

It is learned that more than 1000 police personnel, 25 CCTV cameras, and drones were deployed in the Masjid vicinity.
