Tension prevailed at Aikala Pompei College in the city after a section of Hindu students wore saffron-coloured scarves to protest against Muslim women wearing hijabs in classes.
The incident took place on January 5. It is gathered that the college administration suspended classes for the day as a precautionary measure to prevent untoward incidents.
The Hindu students demanded that they too be allowed to wear saffron shawls if Muslim girl students can wear Hijab.
