Tumakuru: Police have arrested a doctor couple for allegedly defrauding several childless couples, yearning for kids by assuring them of treating their infertility.

Acting on a complaint filed by one of the victims, police personnel of Nonavinakere station arrested Vani and Manjunath from Sakleshpur. They seized ten lac rupees in cash and 250 grams of jewellery from their possession.

As per reports, the doctor couple would charge anywhere between two and five lac rupees for each patient availing their treatment. They would prescribe medicines and also a diet chart to be followed by the childless couple.

The complaint states that the victim paid over Rs 2 lakh for the treatment that began in September 2021. However, within three months the woman developed health complications and had to be hospitalised.

They then contacted Vani and told her about the health complications after taking the prescribed medicines but the latter gave some lame excuses. The victim meanwhile is said to be struggling for her life at a private hospital in Bengaluru.

According to the police, investigating the case, the doctor couple has defrauded several others but many of them are hesitant to come forwards and file a complaint.
