Mulki:  Two inter-state thieves have been arrested by the police personnel attached to Mulki station. Assets and valuables worth about Rs 40 lakh in possession of the accused was seized by the police. Unfortunately, two thieves managed to flee during the police operation.

The arrested are indentified as Sawad alias Karimani (24), resident of Sadashiva Nagar in Karnad, Mulky, and Mohammed Sinan (19) from Thokur near Haleangady. The ones who escaped include the gang leaders K H Muneer Karnad residing at Dargah Road in Karnad, and Hiyach Karnad who are currently on the run. The cops are on the look out to capture them.

two Royal Enfield motorbikes, a Tata pickup truck, Bajaj Pulsar motor bike, a Toyota Fortuner car which reportedly was stolen from Goa and three high end cell phones were recovered from the thieves. Apparently, the accused were using the Tata pickup truck and pulsar motor bike for their thefts.

Under interrogation, the police realized that the thieves were involved with several cases where houses and Daivasthanas were burgled and in thefts reported from Kadike, Santhekatte and other places.

The operation was conducted under the directions of city police commissioner, Sandeep Patil, and guidance of deputy commissioners of police, Hanumantharaya and Laxmi Ganesh, and Panambur assistant commissioner of police, Srinivas Gowda. The operation was led by Mulky police inspectors, Sathish and Siddaraju, and sub-inspector, Sheetal Alagur, with the support of other personnel.

The police have already drawn a net to catch the absconding accused and have also intensified their probe with the hope that several more theft cases could get solved. Apparently, the thieves moved about like normal citizens in the stolen luxury car during the day and indulge in thefts at night.
