Udupi: District’s deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha on Monday, May 12 in a Facebook post stated that from May 13 onwards private bus services will be permitted to operate in the district.
He stated that giving due consideration to the numerous requests and queries made by the residents of the district and that since a few weeks the district has been a Green Zone he decided to restart bus services.
He also added that buses will have to follow all the lockdown guidelines – only 50 per cent of the bus’ listed capacity of passengers to be on board, all passengers to wear facemasks and maintaining social distancing at all times.
However, reacting to this move the Udupi City Bus Owners Association’s president stated that maybe no bus operator will get their buses on the road as the condition of plying at pre-COVID-19 lockdown fares will incur huge losses on the operators.
