Udupi: Around 10MLD of water was supplied through distribution network to the city after the water was pumped from water holes near Shiroor and from Baje dam located near Hiriyadka along Swarna River. The municipality also supplied water through 7 water tankers.
One round completed
The city has been divided into 6 sections and water is being supplied section by section. Since Monday, one round of water supply has been completed. Under normal conditions, 24MLD of water used to be pumped from Baje dam. But since the last 5 days, only 9-0MLD of water is being pumped. On Sunday, the pumps were run for more than 10 hours.
Demand from flats and hotels
The tanker water providers are stating that there is a more demand for water from flats, hotels and lodges. Presently, the municipality is providing water to colonies and houses. On Sunday, water was supplied to Manchi, Eshwara Nagara, Mudabettu, Kalmady, Kadavur and other regions. Houses are provided with 500-1,000 liters of water. But apartments require more than 40,000 liters of water, which is impossible to fulfill and therefore the municipality is not providing water to them. It is learnt that some lodges are facing a severe shortage of water. There is no lack of water sources to provide water through tankers. But currently, the priority is to provide water to houses, inform municipality sources.
