Uppinangady: The timely intervention of a Uppinangady gram panchayat member saved a vegetable vendor from losing money to cyber fraud here.

Reportedly, a man impersonating as an Army officer had contacted a vegetable vendor for supply of vegetables for an army camp. The caller identified himself as Aman and told the vendor that an army camp had been organized about five km away from Uppinangady. He inquired on whether the vendor could supply the vegetables for the camp on a daily basis and when he agreed, he messaged him the grocery list.

The caller told the vendor that he would send across a vehicle to collect the vegetable and payment for the same will be done to his bank account directly. The vendor shared his bank details without suspecting the man’s intentions.

After some time the caller asked him to share the OTP he received on his mobile. As the vendor was about to share the details, a gram panchayat member noticed it and stopped him from giving the details.
