Shivamogga: A youth was stabbed by a group of unidentified miscreants after a row erupted over Veer Savarkar- Tippu Sulthan flex row here.
The victim is identified as Prem Singh. He has been shifted to a local hospital for further treatment.
The motive behind the attack was not immediately known.
According to the Karnataka home minister, the stabbing incident is likely due to the ongoing Savarkar photo issue in Shivamogga.
“One stabbing incident has happened in Shivamogga is what I’m told. Is it regarding Savarkar photo issue, it seems like it. But yet to get full details,” Karnataka Home Minister Araga Jnanendra was quoted speaking to India Today.
Clashes between people of two communities erupted on Monday, August 15, regarding the flex of Veer Savarkar placed at Ameer Ahmed Circle.
As a part of the 75th Indian Independence Day celebrations, Veer Savarkar’s flex was put up at the Circle.
Reportedly, this irked people of one community, leading to an attempt of replacing Savarkar’s flex with that of Tipu Sultan.
At this point in time, the police intervened and removed Savarkar’s flex and urged the people to maintain peace.
As the situation went out of control, the police had to resort to the lathi charge.
Meanwhile, to maintain law and order, the Shivamogga Police have clamped Section 144 in the city limits and have tightened the security.
