Athani: In blatant violation of RTO guidelines on number plates for vehicles, most of the bikes in the taluk, including Transport Minister Savadi’s taluk here are using fancy number plate for their vehicles. The police department and RTO officials have however turned a blind eye to this breach of rules.
There are rules regarding number plate designs and standards. However, it was noticed that most people are not following these rules.
Most of the fancy number plates have the vehicle registration numbers embedded in words such as ‘Dada,’ ‘Boss,’ Raja,’ ‘Bappa Moraya,’ ‘Dad’s Gift,’ ‘Athanisha’ and ‘Chinnu.’
After a crime, theft or violation of the law involving a vehicle, police find it difficult to locate the vehicle if the number plate isn’t numbered.
The police charges penalty to whose who violate mask-wearing and helmet rules but pay no heed to the fancy number plates.
It is necessary that the police check this large-scale breach of the rule as they do with driving licenses, RCs, insurance, Pollution Control Board’s certificate to ensure that the traffic rules are followed.
