- Much needed relief for pedestrians
Mangaluru: Within 10 days of assuming office, Mangaluru’s new city police commissioner Sandeep Patil is bringing out rules and regulations to make lives of the citizens easier. The new rule on the horizon is strict action against vehicles stopping on the zebra crossing at signal when the red light is on.
Mr Patil informed that it has come to notice that when the red light is burning on the traffic signal light, vehicle users stop their vehicles on the zebra crossing meant for the use of pedestrians thereby causing inconvenience for the pedestrians. This haphazard behavior of motorists is compelling the pedestrians to cross the road in a precarious manner and it majorly affects the elderly and the women.
Henceforth, vehicles stopping on Zebra crossing during the red light will attract fines. In order to make the faded zebra crossing visible at junctions with high traffic, the police had the zebra crossing repainted during the night at Nanthoor, KPT and other locations.
