Veteran Yakshagana artiste and former MLA Kumble Sundar Rao no more

Mangaluru: Yakshagana and Tala-Maddale artiste Kumble Sundar Rao passed away on Wednesday. He was 88.

He was an exponent of Thenkuthittu or Thenkatittu style Yakshagana.

He was the Member of Karnataka Legislative Assembly from the Surathkal constituency from 1994 to 1999.

Sundar Rao was awarded Yakshamangala award from P Dayananda Pai and P Satish Pai Yakshagana Adhyayana Kendra at Mangalore University for the year 2018-2019. He also served as president of Karnataka state Yakshagana academy.

His mortal remains will be kept for public viewing at his home in Pumpwell on Wednesday, sources said.

His funeral will be held on December 1.
