Vijayapura: In a remarkable display of dedication and academic pursuit, an 81-year-old man has raised eyebrows by appearing for his fifth post-graduate examination. Ningaiah Odeyara, who is currently pursuing an M.A. in English from Indira Gandhi Open University (IGNOU), has become an inspiration for young students.

Residing in SC Halli village near Gudur in Ilkal taluk of Bagalkot district, Odeyara, a former government employee, developed a habit of reading after retirement. Determined to utilize his time for academic achievements, he has already obtained master’s degrees in Kannada, Hindi, and English from Karnataka University.

Undeterred by previous accomplishments, Odeyara decided to pursue his M.A. in English from IGNOU. Currently appearing for the final year examination, it is noteworthy that this is his fifth post-graduate examination.

The M.A. English examination, conducted at the BLDE College of Nursing in Vijayapura, witnessed an impressive sight as Odeyara, distinguished by his age, took his place among the other students. His presence among his much younger examinees served as a beacon of inspiration for the youth to pursue their educational aspirations.

Odeyara humbly credits his wife’s unwavering support as the driving force behind his achievements.

IGNOU Regional Director Dr. A. Varadarajan and Assistant Director B.N. Devendra expressed their surprise and happiness at Odeyar’s indomitable spirit and dedication to continuing his studies even at an advanced age.

Ningaiah Wodeyar’s incredible journey serves as a shining example of lifelong learning and determination, reminding us that age should never be a barrier to pursuing one’s dreams.
