Mangaluru: A day after a video of eight CCB police personnel allegedly consuming liquor at a bar while on-duty went viral on social media, city police commissioner N Shashikumar transferred all eight cops to different police stations within the commissionerate limits following a preliminary enquiry into the incident.
“It is very disappointing to see such conduct by our staff as it would jeopardize all our efforts to improve public perception and police image, it is on the grounds of, sharing a table with an accused of the betting case that too when on duty. However, it can’t be established that whether staff also consumed alcohol or not,” stated the release by Shashi Kumar.
“Not all can be equally held responsible for the lapse, though it’s a grave lapse so is this proportionate action: 3 ASIs,5 Head Constables have been transferred to Konaje, Bajpe, North Kankanady town, Mangaluru South, Urwa and Barke station,” the releases added.
“Some of the staff didn’t know complete details about him (accused of betting case). Despite some explanations given by our officers and staff, the decision was taken as I found it is appropriate and proportionate,” Shashi Kumar said.
The orders have been already issued and the officers will report to their new stations on Sunday, January 31.
