Website, theme for 3rd Manipal Marathon launched

Manipal: The website and the theme for the third edition of Manipal Marathon was launched by Dr Ranjan Pai, Chairman, MEMG, Bengaluru at the Senate Hall in the Manipal Edu building on Wednesday. Also present on the occasion were, Dr HS Ballal, Pro Chancellor, MAHE, Dr H Vinod Bhat, Vice Chancellor, MAHE, Pro Vice Chancellors Dr PLNG Rao and Dr Poornima Baliga, Heads of Institutions, Sports Advisors and members of the Sports Council of MAHE, Manipal Runners Club (MRC), and the Volunteer Services Organization. 

The theme for next year’s Marathon to be held on February 10, 2019 is, ‘Mental Health Awareness’. The members of MRC and VSO made a presentation of the previous marathons to show how the run, which in only two years, has become an important event in the MAHE calendar.

“The 2017 edition had about 4000 participants and this year about 6000. In the next edition we are hoping to get at least 10,000 runners in the 3k, 5k, 10k and half marathon categories,” said University Sports Secretary, Dr Vinod Nayak.

“Manipal Marathon has been ranked 3rd best among the marathons being organized across the country in a poll conducted by Sketchers,” said Mr Rahul Konapur, the President of MRC, and a 4th Year BPharm Student at MCOPS. 

“The official Manipal running mobile app to track runs, participate in group runs and build the running community of Manipal in house and among the Alumni has been developed.”The App has unique features and has been developed by MIT students” added Mr Navaal Rai, the Vice President of MRC, and a 3rd Year at MIT Manipal.
