After Brexit, UK PM Boris Johnson’s father Stanley Johnson said he’s applying for French citizenship just as the UK finally ended its ties with the European Union
Stanley said that as his mother was born in France and her mother was completely French. As reported by France24, Stanley was among the first civil servants from the UK to work for the EU after the country joined the bloc in 1973. As a result, Boris Johnson spent part of his childhood in Brussels and learnt French.
He also served as a Member of the European Parliament (MEP) between 1979 and 1984 from the Conservative Party, and later went on to work for the European Commission.
The 80-year-old, who unlike his son had voted to remain in the European Union, said, “I’ll always be European, that’s for sure…For me it’s a question of obtaining what I already have.”
