Bengaluru: Days after BJP MLA Appachu Rajan urged that the glorification of Tipu Sultan in history lessons should be done away with, BJP Yuva Morcha Secretary Sharath Bachegowda on Friday, October 25 making a statement contradicting with his party’s stand over the issue said that he will celebrate Tipu Jayanti.
Speaking at a religious program in Thammarasanahalli Sharath said that he will celebrate Tipu Jayanti because he is a freedom fighter.
Following Sharath’s statement, political experts expressed that there will be an internal conflict of interest within the saffron party’s cadre over the issue.
It may be recalled that BJP MLA Appachu Rajan on October 22 had urged that the glorification of the ruler of erstwhile Mysore kingdom in history lessons should be done away with.
In a letter submitted to Primary and Secondary Education Minister S Suresh Kumar, Rajan contended that Tipu was concerned about expanding his territory and the promotion of his religion.
He urged the minister to drop the lessons on Tipu Sultan from the school curriculum after consultations with subject experts and to include lessons on patriotism.
