Within a week of joining, employee steals ornaments from jewellery store; held

Bengaluru: Yelahanka police arrested a 22-year-old woman in connection with theft of gold and diamond ornaments from a store in the city.

The arrested Vani Wadekar is a native of Bidar.

Acting on the complaint filed by the store manager Mohammad Afzal, police arrested Vani and seized ornaments worth Rs 58.60 lakh from her possession.

Vani had started working at the RMZ Galleria Mall, Yelahanka as a sales representative on December 10 last year. Within a week of joining, she began stealing gold jewellery from the shop and replaced it with fake jewellery with same design.

A discrepancy was noticed during the routine stock check at the store a few days ago. Moreover, the fake jewellery issue too came to light. Vani’s act was known when the CCTV footage at the store was examined.
