World’s longest railway platform in Hubballi to ease congestion and improve efficiency

Hubballi: Shree Siddharoodha Swamiji Railway Station – Hubballi in Kirti Nagar is now home to the longest railway platform in the world and will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday.

The platform, which measures an impressive 1,507 meters (4938 feet) in length, has been built at a cost of Rs 20.01 crore to accommodate the growing demand for rail travel in the region over the next few decades.

According to SWR railway, the new platform has been designed with an eye toward the future growth of the railway system over the next 20-30 years. It will allow two trains to travel in opposite directions simultaneously, easing congestion and improving efficiency.

Hubli Railway Junction is one of the most important railway junctions in India, with hundreds of trains connecting to different parts of the country passing through it every day. Despite its importance, the junction lacked a platform long enough to accommodate trains effectively.

Trains approaching the station had to wait outside due to the lack of space on the platform. Once the existing train passed, the waiting train could finally enter the station. However, there was no room to increase the number of platforms at the station.

The idea of expanding the platform within the existing space was proposed and has now led to the construction of the longest platform in the world. This will help alleviate congestion at the station and improve the overall efficiency of train travel in the region.
