New Delhi: A day after former Finance minister, Yashwant Sinha’s critique article on the country’s economical growth and its poor handling of the economy was published, his son, Jayant Sinha, came in defence of the government.
Jayant Sinha, Minister of State for Civil Aviation, said the government is creating a robust new economy that will power longterm growth and job creation.
“The methodology for calculation of the GDP was changed by the present government in 2015 as a result of which the growth rate recorded earlier increased statistically by over 200 basis points on an annual basis. So, according to the old method of calculation, the growth rate of 5.7 per cent is actually 3.7 per cent or less.” he said.
Jayant opined that “structural reforms” undertaken by the Modi government since 2014 constituted the third generation of reforms – first being the 1991 economic reforms and “second in the 1999-2004 NDA government”.
Former finance minister P Chidambaram welcomed Sinha’s critique and said that no matter what power the truth will ultimately prevails.
