Youth drowns in Somvarpet

Somvarpet: A youth who had gone to swim at the Mallalli waterfalls drowned. This incident took place on Monday April 9th. The deceased has been identified as Abhishek (22), son of Manjunath from Kugekodi Sabbankoppa village.

Abhishek was employed at a private company in Bangaluru. He had come down to his village to attend the ‘pooja’ of the village deity on Saturday April 7th. He went along with his friends and families to visit Mallalli waterfalls. All were sitting on a rock on the shallow side of the falls, when Abhishek went to swim in the deep pool known as ‘Maranabavi’ (death well). This is where he met his end. He drowned.

Somvarpet police visited the location and helped in the bringing out the mortal remains of the deceased. Prasanna, a swimmer from Kumaralli searched for the mortal remains in the pool and confirmed that the body was stuck at the depth of 20 feet. Since it was night, the body could not be retrieved. It was brought out in the morning, informed Inspector Shivanna.
