ZP to get a new landmark

Urwa Store: A new and attractive entrance is being created for the DK Zilla Panchayat office to welcome the people. The new entrance is being built at the cost of Rs 3.5 lakh by using Aluminium Composite Panel (ACP) and the work is expected to be completed soon.

Till now, it was being said that the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat office was located next to the Infosys building at Urwa Store. This is so because the ZP did not have a proper entrance and a few residents of the city were oblivious to the existence of the office or its location. Although, Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayat was painted in red on the rod structure next to the main road, it was not clearly visible and hence the location of ZP remained a difficult find. Now, with the new and attractive entrance, Zilla Panchayat will be getting a new look.

70% of the work completed

70% of the work on the entrance has been completed and only a few works in final phase remain to be completed including the installation of the sheets and the work on writing the name. The entrance is being created by ZP’s Panchayat Raj Engineering Division.

Though the deadline of April 2^nd was given to the Panchayat Raj Engineering Division, it was not possible to achieve it due to some technical reasons.

New entrance

The works is expected to be completed in the next couple of days and the new entrance will be handed over to the Zilla Panchayat informs an officials from Division.

15 feet tall; 47 feet wide

The new entrance is 15 feet tall and 45 feet wide. The specialty is that APC sheets used in buildings have been installed for this and can be reused. In case the road is getting widened and the entrance needs to be removed, the sheets can be uninstalled and reused, informs an official from the Panchayat Raj Engineering Division.

19 years without an entrance

The ZP first started functioning from the TP building at Hampankatta. In 2000, it was relocated to its own building at Urwa Store. Till now, the landmark for ZP was being besides the Infosys building. The existence of the red painted iron entrance depicting the location of ZP was ineffective, say ZP staffs. Now, with the creation of the new entrance, the existence of ZP has gained more importance.

Work to be completed in 15 days

“Due to the new entrance, it will be easier for newcomers to locate ZP. The work on the new entrance will be completed in the next 15 days,” informed A S Rao, Assistant Executive Engineer, Panchayat Raj, Engineering Department, ZP,
