Udupi: Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha released a statement on his Facebook account clarifying the issue of provision of facilities to army aspirants.

In photos and videos that were shared on social media, many aspirants who were to appear for the tests for being selected into the army were seen sleeping on the roads at night.

Comments were made against the Udupi district administration for not providing basic facilities to them.

Jagadeesha stated in his Facebook post, “This is a selection camp organised by the Indian Army. The district administration has cooperated with them and made arrangements for the aspirants at 6 places. However, some aspirants arrive at midnight and sleep on the roads till 4 am then leave for the test grounds. The district administration made arrangements of drinking water, food and shelter for the aspirants, expenses for which were borne by local donors without a single rupee being requested from the government. Some elements are deliberately spreading negative publicity about the entire event.”

Reportedly, arrangements were made for the aspirants by the Adamaru matha, where many aspirants are being provided free accommodation and food.

The army recruitment rally is being held in Udupi till March 29.
