A new study found that drinking beet juice can improve your cardiovascular health. The study was published in May in the journal Redox Biology and conducted by scientists at the University of Exeter in the UK.
The study, conducted using 26 participants ranging between 70 and 80 years old, found that people who consumed regular beet juice-filled nitrates, had a higher growth of oral bacteria in the mouth.
Beet juice can up your body’s nitric oxide levels, which increases oxygen to the heart. They are known to have high amounts of nitrates, a group of organic compounds that improve blood flow and promote heart health. The body converts nitrates into nitric oxide which can kill bacteria and protect the brain and stimulate brain function, relaxing the blood vessels and they expand which improves blood circulation, bringing more oxygen to the body’s key organs, the heart, and the brain.
Also, another study found that a glass of beet juice can lower blood pressure in people with hypertension.
Beet juice is rich in vitamin B-6, iron, folate, magnesium, manganese, phosphorous, copper, zinc, and other vitamins and minerals that help support cardiovascular health.
