Udupi: Villagers crowd mkts to stock up before 5 day complete lockdown

Udupi: Soon after the announcement by district’s Deputy Commissioner G Jagadeesha that gram panchayats with more than 50 COVID-19 cases will be completely locked down for 5 days, villagers residing in these gram panchayats flocked markets to replenish domestic food items.
In Shirva, long lines of parked vehicles of shoppers out to buy essential items were reported.
People had gathered inside and outside shops without maintaining distances.
In other places too huge crowds were reported and shops had their stocks sold in less than an hour after opening.
