Karwar: An incident where a group of youth who carried an elderly woman down a slippery hill for 5 kilometres to reach hospital was reported from Machalli here.

Nemi Gowda, a resident of Machhalli located in the middle of the forest and which falls under the limits of Amadalli gram panchayat in the taluk, had fallen ill.

As there was no road connectivity, ambulances or other vehicles cannot reach the village.

So, a group of four youths from the village tied a plastic chair to two logs, made the woman sit in the chair and carried her to Amadalli village from where she was taken to hospital in a vehicle.

The woman’s family has informed that she currently undergoing treatment and is recovering from her illness.

However, the villagers say that she is not the first person to be carried that way. If anyone in the village falls sick, they are similarly carried to the main village. It takes about 1 hour on foot to reach the village.

The road connectivity problem has been in the village for decades. Villagers say that they have brought to the notice of the district administration and elected representatives on several occasions but to no avail.
