Udupi: Businessman Bhaskar Shetty’s wife Rajeshwari Shetty and son Navneet Shetty, who are currently serving life sentences in connection with his murder, have filed an appeal and bail plea at the Karnataka High Court.

Rajeshwari Shetty filed the appeal on June 5 and Navneet Shetty filed on July 7. Sources said the hearing of the petitions is likely to take place after three weeks.

The Udupi District and Sessions Court had on July 8 sentenced Rajeshwari Shetty, her son Navneet Shetty and astrologer Niranjan Bhat to life imprisonment for murdering NRI businessman Bhaskar Shetty, five years ago.

The fifth accused, Raghavendra, was acquitted. The father of accused Niranjan Bhatt had died of an illness earlier.
