Bengaluru: More than a thousand applicants were selected for jobs in prestigious institutions on the first day of the Virtual Job Fair held here.

“The fair is being held by the Karnataka Skill Development Corporation as part of the ‘Koushalyamasa’ program. It saw more than 5,000 applicants with more than 1,000 of them receiving jobs on the first day itself,” said Deputy Chief Minister Dr CN Ashwath Narayan.

Speaking after delivering appointment letters to some of the young women who received jobs, the minister said that the Skill Development Corporation is working as a bridge between employers and employees and the job fair will continue throughout the month.

“Karnataka presents the largest employment opportunities in the country, with more than five lakh people registering for the Provident Fund and ESI facility in the organised sector each year,” he added.

“Japan has offered to provide employment to five lakh Indians and has signed an agreement with the Government of India regarding this. Many countries are also demanding skilled Indian human resources. An agreement with Britain has already been concluded to send 1,000 nurses to the country,” Narayan said.
