Bengaluru: Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai on Saturday, August 7 lauded golfer Aditi Ashok, saying that she has done an excellent job.

Aditi Ashok signed off fourth in the Olympic Games’ golf competition after carding a three-under 68 in the weather-hit final round on Saturday

“Aditi Ashok has done an excellent job. She missed the medal but has shown her international standard and there’s a great future for her,” Bommai said.

“Karnataka government and the entire state stands with her. I wish her all the best for the future,” he added.

Aditi, who hails from Bengaluru had already put India firmly on the Olympic golf map by staying in second position at the end of the first three rounds played.

She, who had been one of the most consistent golfers across the first three rounds of the women’s golf competition, narrowly missed out on a medal though, after finishing fourth in a field of 60 golfers. And with that she is also now the Indian golfer with the best finish ever at the Olympics.

Golf remember has been played in only four editions so far (1900, 1904, 2016 and 2020).

Despite missing a medal by a whisker, Aditi’s performance needs to be celebrated. After finishing 41st at the Rio Olympics, she has clearly improved by leaps and bounds. She is ranked 200th in the world, but stayed in medal contention, along with world number one and eventual gold medallist Nelly Korda of USA, through three rounds of play.

Aditi was born in Bengaluru in 1998 and started playing golf at the age of five. Her father took her to the Karnataka Golf Association Driving Range, when she showed an inclination for the sport.
