Mysuru: Five accused, arrested for the alleged gang rape of a girl student at the foothills of Chamundi on August 24 evening, revealed to the Mysuru police that they were encouraged to commit the crime as no complaint was ever lodged against them by the earlier victims.

They assaulted men, molested women, and took away their valuables. They had become fearless and proceeded to gangrape the girl as none of the couples they targeted earlier had filed police complaints.

The police have produced the accused before the court and have taken them into custody. Their medical tests have also been conducted. The accused have told police that they presumed Mysuru to be the safest city to commit crimes as none of their victims dared to lodge a police complaint.

Sources said the accused have confessed to the investigating team that they thought this gang rape case victim would also not lodge a police complaint. The gang rape accused have confessed to having committed many cases of road robberies and molestations in Mysuru.

One of them is involved in a sandalwood theft in Mysuru, while the other is wanted for a murder in Erode district.

Police arrested the accused based on technical evidence. They were arrested in Tamil Nadu.

Based on a tip-off, a team of Mysuru Police had gone to Kerala and Tamil Nadu to nab the accused. Reportedly, six men who gang-raped an MBA student at Chamundi foothills were in their late 20s and demanded Rs 3 lakh not to make public videos of the assault, the survivor’s classmate told police in his statement on Friday.

Based on his observations, cops had drawn up sketches of the accused and gathered crime scene details.

The gang had raped the girl on August 24 after assaulting her male friend.
