Bengaluru: Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) said that the city has 51 overhead tanks, out of which 19 are redundant and will be demolished.
BM Somashekar, Chief Engineer, BWSSB, said that it is easier to supply water directly rather than using electricity to pump water and spend money on its maintenance.
The tanks in the city were built to overcome the shortage of drinking water in the city. The demand for such tanks was high during that time but now bore wells are increasing rapidly. Six tanks have been demolished so far.
