Mangaluru: The Baikampady Karkera Moolasthana Jarandaya Daivasthana and Naga Brahma Peeta, which are locally important shrines worshipped by Tulu people, were found to be vandalized in the early hours of October 17.
Miscreants broke the gates of the shrine and demolished an idol of the Naga deity as well as chipped off a statue of Nandi. The items in the cupboards were strewn around.
The devotees, who visited the Daivasthana in the early morning first noticed the desecration and notified the shrine administration about it. The information was then passed on to the police who visited the spot and conducted investigations.
In the recent past, many places of religious importance were vandalized around Mangaluru city. This has deeply hurt the feelings of the faithful. So, security must be provided to all religious places, locals said.
