Ptutur: RSS leader, Narayana Rai who is accused of raping a minor Dalit girl in Puttur surrendered to the court on Wednesday, October 27.
It is said that the victim used to work on Rai’s farm in Badagannur village, Puttur taluk. The girl gave birth to a baby recently.
Earlier, the Puttur court had quashed the anticipatory bail application moved by him and Rai was trying to get anticipatory bail from the high court.
On October 27, Narayan Rai came to the sessions court and filed an application for interim bail. The police officials got objections filed to the application through the special public prosecutor. Police also sought two days of police custody of the accused and the judge sent him to police custody.
Dalit organisations alleged that Narayan Rai’s name was mentioned at the time of delivery but the medical officer and staff of Lady Goschen Hospital obtained a false statement signed by the victim in order to protect Rai.
Police officials had allegedly threatened the girl’s family and also changed the name of the accused as Pramod in the FIR. The girl’s brother was arrested by the cops without valid proof.
