Udupi: Kannada and Culture Minister V Sunil Kumar said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will win the byelections in  both Hangal and Sindgi Assembly segments.

Speaking to the reporters, Sunil Kumar expressed confidence and said that party candidates would surely register a victory in both places. He said the results would have an impact on the Assembly elections in the State.

He further said, ” Congress will definitely lose in the elections. However, D K Shivakumar had accepted defeat as soon as the elections were declared.”

When asked about the disappointment among the artists of the music field on not giving the Rajyotsava award, he said, “ We have selected 66 people within the limited number of awards. We have tried our level best to honour the artists. However, I accept that justice could not be done to all. In the coming year, we will do our best. Also, I will discuss with Chief Minister and suggest minor changes to the rules of selecting the awardees.”

“The government will take a decision to ensure maximum number of jobs for Kannadigas in public and private sectors. The government will make sure that Kannadigas get a specific reservation. Also, we had formed a committee to compose music and also decide the time factor of the Nadageethe. The committee has submitted its recommendation to the government and the final form of Nadageethe will be announced within one or two days,” he added.

When asked about the Black day celebrations by CFI opposing NEP, Sunil said, ” This is done by semi-literate people, NEP will give priority to general category students and our language is given special priority too. Also, priority will be given to the education of backward classes.”

Talking about late actor Puneeth Rajkumar, he said, ” Puneeth’s demise is a huge loss to the state.  People are demanding the government to confer the Rajyotsava award posthumously to him. However, as per rules, there is no chance of giving such an award. But, we will consider his service in the coming days. We will hold a meeting after Deepavali to decide on this.”
