Kaup: Elderly man killed after being hit by ambulance on NH66

Kaup: In a shocking road accident, an elderly man, who had gone for a morning walk, was killed after being hit by an ambulance.
The incident occurred when the victim was crossing the National Highway 66 near Kothal Katte on Friday morning, sources said.
The deceased has been identified as Govinda Poojary (65), a resident of Kelathota in Uliyargoli village.
Govinda Poojary was standing next to the National Highway ready to cross the road when an ambulance travelling from Udupi towards Mangaluru veered to the right and hit him, reports said.
A severely injured Govinda Poojari was rushed to Udupi District Hospital, but doctors declared him brought dead.
Due to the impact, the front of the ambulance was completely crushed. However, the ambulance driver Mani suffered minor injuries in the incident.
The patient who was being ferried in the ambulance was rushed to Mangaluru in another ambulance.
A case has been registered at the Kaup police station.
